Make A List Of Things To Do!
If you haven’t done so already, you should create a list of wedding things to do. It’s up to you how you present this; some brides keep a wedding book others have a file on their PC desktop. The format is not important but the content is!
Maybe you have already completed some jobs in which case you can start crossing them off. This should give you an amazing sense of satisfaction!
Here are some examples of jobs that need to be done before the big day:-
- Book a reception venue
- Agree on groomsmen and bridesmaids
- Agree a guest list
- Order & send out wedding invitations
- Book photographer
- Book church
- Agree order of service
- Decide on honeymoon
- Choose dress
- Select men’s suits and bridesmaid colours
- Order wedding favours
- Choose flowers
- Take out wedding insurance
- Set up a gift list
- Have wedding cake made and decorated
- Select transport
- Write speeches
- Buy bridal party gifts
- Arrange make-up & hair trial
- Book evening entertainment
- Choose first dance song
Decide which items are immediate [e.g. things that need to be prepared in advance, such as ordering the wedding invitations or booking the church]. Then, draw up a 12 month schedule and insert each job into a month. Of course, the more immediate actions will need to be addressed in the first few months, whereas ordering less important items may wait until later on.
It would be a good idea to make a copy for your fiance and for your bridal party. Involving others in your wedding planning will make them feel more included as well as taking pressure off yourself. For example, you may put your chief bridesmaid in charge of wedding invitations - ordering them, writing them and sending them out.
If you keep up with your schedule and remain organised each month, wedding planning can be great fun - as it should be. By completing small tasks regularly you won’t feel out of control or stressed and everything should fall into place.
Good Luck!
Making Your Wedding Favour Choice Simple!
Choosing wedding favours can be difficult as they need to fit in with the overall theme of your wedding.
Choosing between edible wedding favours [such as sweets & chocolate] and inedible wedding favours [such as candle wedding favours] is really quite a dilemma! This is because your guests will always remember the favours that you choose. It’s strange to think that after all that money, effort, stress and panic involved in wedding planning, that the guests only memories of the day will be the bride’s dress and the wedding favours!
Inedible favours vary HUGELY from photo album favours to coasters and silver wedding favours to candle wedding favours. The selection is quite vast so it is really a case of choosing which ones best suit your wedding theme. These can be kept forever and therefore provide a life-long lasting memory of your special day.
In addition, after a delicious wedding banquet, 3 glasses of champagne and a piece of wedding cake many guests are turned off by the thought of having to eat more!
Alternatively, edible wedding favours are really rather tasty - especially for the younger guests. It is hard enough for little ones to sit through the whole event without having a tantrum only to realise that there are no sweet wedding favours on their arrival at the reception.
The promise of sweet wedding favours is a real incentive for mums who are struggling with their little terrors during a lengthy church ceremony! As far as more traditional guests are concerned [your Great-Grandmother and old Auntie Doris], a wedding just wouldn’t be a wedding without edible wedding favours such as sugared almonds or delicious chocolate dragees!
So, our top tips for choosing your wedding favours are: -
- Choose favours that are clearly related to your wedding theme - whether in colour or style.
- Don’t try to please all of your guests with one favour - you may need to give a selection depending on the age and gender of the guest.
- Try to avoid giving chocolate favours in the summer months - especially if going abroad to hotter climates - it could end up disastrous!
- Choose a favour that you would personally like to receive yourself - after all, it is YOUR wedding day.

Keep An Eye On The Budget!
It is very important to set a budget when planning a wedding. Very few brides actually stick to it, but keeping a record of every expenditure allows you to keep on top of your spending.
Our best advice is to keep a notebook where you record everything you spend on the wedding. Sit down with your partner [and key members of the 2 families if they are absorbing some of the costs] along with a bottle of wine. This is a great time for everyone to share their views about how much they expect to spend and who will be paying for what.
Lay out a sheet with your ‘expected’ cost and leave a column blank for what you actually spend. You should also agree a maximum total spend. Expect some variation on this but if you have a rough budget, at least you all have something to work towards.
You could allocate a percentage of the budget to key members of the family who will then be responsible for certain aspects of the wedding. It is sometimes easier to keep a hold of the budget when all of you work together.
Every bride wants her day to be nothing less than perfect, but these days everything to do with a wedding seems to come with a hefty price tag. But, believe it or not, there are ways that you can make cutbacks and really save yourself some money. You can do this by taking advantage of special offers and by keeping a close eye on expenditure.
Do your homework before making any purchases so that you can get the best deal. Also, you should also take advantage of the massive increase in internet sales. Many more products are available on-line nowadays and are often cheaper than products available in the shops.

Planning Your Wedding & Enjoying Yourself?
Wedding planning and organising should be a really fun time in your life although it is true to say that it can be stressful at times.
Firstly, you must appreciate that organising a wedding is hard work and needs to be carefully prepared. Buy yourself a book or folder - this will become your bible of all things weddingy for the next year or so. Keep all your ideas, magazine cuttings, deadlines, phone numbers and wedding invitation replies in this, your wedding planning folder.
Decide which items are immediate [e.g. things that need to be prepared in advance, such as ordering the wedding invitations or booking the church]. Then, draw up a 12 month schedule and insert each job into a month. Of course, the more immediate actions will need to be addressed in the first few months, whereas ordering wedding favours may wait until later on.
Some people find organising such a big event too difficult and if this sounds like you, why don’t you ask for a bit of help? There are loads of reasonably priced wedding planners out there who can help you with aspects of your wedding or arrange the complete day for you. You need to weigh up the cost between spending out on a planner and how much you can physically cope with by yourself.
If cost is an issue, why not involve others in your wedding planning? This often makes others feel more included as well as taking pressure off yourself. Designate specific roles to particular individuals so that everything is covered and everyone has a key responsibility. This is also a diplomatic way of ensuring overpowering individuals don’t completely take over your big day!
For example, ask your mum to be responsible for the flowers, cakes and favours and your mother-in-law to organise the stationery and table plans. If you know someone has a special skill, they will probably be overjoyed that you have asked them to exercise it!
Remember, that you have the final say on EVERYTHING and so regular meetings with co-ordinators and family helpers is key to the success of your wedding.
By working together and sharing responsibilities, organising a wedding can be enjoyable as well as a great family bonding exercise.
Get The Big Jobs Done First!
As couples are booking weddings earlier and earlier in advance, to ensure you get your desired location and venue, you need to book early. Your choice of venue, location and time of year will then help you decide on a wedding theme.
Once this is all booked and a deposit paid, you can then relax a little because the most important job is done. Some brides book reception venues a couple of years in advance and then don’t go on to make any further plans until 6 months later.
The next BIG job to get arranged is the wedding stationery and the guest list. Depending on how you wish to invite your guests, you may choose to send out ‘Save the Date’ cards in addition to invitations so that your guests keep your special day free. This is especially important if you are planning to get married during the summer when many families book holidays some years in advance.
So, if you have booked your reception venue and organised your wedding stationery – well done – you can now celebrate with your partner as you have your first [of many!] glasses of champagne.

Choosing your favours is an important decision when planning your wedding. Many brides do not always realise the importance of favours; apart from them serving a purpose as a little ‘thank-you’ they are also a great way of tying your theme together and give your tables a sensational feel of occasion.
If - like many busy brides - you do not have the time [or the inclination] to make up favour boxes or tie tulle nets with ribbons, why not go for a ready made favour such as a personalised mint tin?
